When news of Kami Kabange’s departure from City Oilers surfaced prior to the Africa Club Championship in Cairo, Egypt, Steven Omony was seen as the obvious replacement.

Then, not player nor the club could confirm whether the Silverbacks and Falcons captain had or could join the four-time league champions.

The speculation is no more as no more as City Oilers have confirmed the signing of the versatile and experienced forward who can do a little bit of everything.

“Yes, the Silverbacks captain (Steven Omony) is now the 14th member of the defending and new champions of the NBL,” team manager Grace Kwizera said.

Omony, who is considered the best player in the country is part of the locally-based Silverbacks team preparing for the upcoming Zone V qualifiers.

Before he gets his City Oilers career underway, the star forward will have to lead Uganda in the Afrobasket qualifiers in which only two teams will progress to the continental tournament later this year.
