In the aftermath of a 1-0 defeat at the hands of KCCA in the first leg of the preliminary round, CD Primeiro midfielder Ibukun Akinfewno says the Ugandan side may pay for not winning by a bigger goal margin.

Geoffrey Sserunkuma lone goal decided the tie in favour of the hosts and the Nigerian says they had all the advantage to win by more than a single goal.

“We came here to do well but it didn’t happen,” he told a post-match press conference. “We lost. We don’t want to lose but they had all the advantage to win more than 1-0 but we did our best and I think they also now know we aren’t easy to beat like and I am sure they will be prepared to come to us,” he added.

The midfielder, who caused all sorts of havoc to the Kasasiro with his dazzling skills, also admits the astro turf at Lugogo had a big impact on their loss since they are not used to it.

We are not used to synthetic. They play here every day, they know the system, they know how it feels to play on the synthetic and for us, it was really strange.

The two sides meet in the return leg on Sunday February 19 with the Angolan side seeking to overturn the deficit.

It won’t be easy but we know it’s a result we can turn. We now know the target and will work hard to see we get the two goals but keep things tight at the back as well.

The aggregate winner of the tie will play reigning African champions, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
