Vipers 0-0 Volcan de Moroni
Vipers have put themselves in a precarious situation going into the second leg of their preliminary CAF Confederation Cup after drawing goalless at home to Volcan de Moroni of Comoros.
The hosts, playing on the continent for only the second time in history dominated the game played at Mandela National stadium, Namboole but without hurting the opponent.
Coach Richard Wasswa named an offensive side with Milton Kariisa leading the line flanked by the experienced duo of Tony Odur and Erisa Ssekisambu while Moses Waiswa and Keziron Kizito played in the middle in support of the trio.
In the first half, the visitors were on the receiving end as Vipers created chances but Kariisa, Odur and Ssekisambu couldn’t keep their effort on target.
Odur and Karisa also had attempts tipped over the bar by the visitors’ goalie in a largely dull first half.
A few minutes into the second half, Wasswa made the first change with Brian Kakaire replacing Ssekisambu and later Ibrahim Kayiwa coming on for Moses Waiswa.
But like it was in the first half, Vipers remained in control without creating havoc and not even the introduction of Francis Onekalit changed a thing as the game ended goalless.
The two sides face off in the return leg on Saturday with a win of any kind getting either through to the next round.
At worst, Vipers need a score draw to advance to the next round.
