Maroons Football Club

Kira United kept their hopes of topping the Elgon group in the FUFA Big League alive with a 2-1 victory over Maroons on Thursday at Kira Municipality playground.

Moses Kinya gave the hosts the lead in the 30th minute, but it did not last for so long the Big League leading goal scorer Patrick Kaddu leveled matters seven minutes later to end the first half all square.

Ssali Kawagu then separated the sides late in the game with his 76th minute goal to ensure his side cuts the lead atop to six points as they continue to chase their dream of gaining promotion to top flight.

The loss was Maroons’ second of the campaign, and their second in a succession following their 1-0 loss to Ndejje University a fortnight ago.

With Ndejje convincingly winning their game, the result left Kira United third in the group with 33 points, six adrift of group leaders Maroons, and just one off Ndejje placed second.

Maroons meanwhile, remain positioned atop, but with only three games left of play for the Prisoners in regular season, they risk missing out on automatic promotion as only six points separate them from Kira who have played a game less, and five points from second placed Ndejje who also have a game in hand.
