There was excitement as the Buganda Region Women Football League kicked off at Light College Katikamu in Masuliita town, Hoima road.
Promisingly, there was amazing talent on display, commitment from the team officials and players alike.
In some of the opening games, Bugema University was held to a goalless draw by Light Katikamu, Taggy Girls were 5-0 winners against God Cares, Light Bulenga and Bugema played to a goalless draw and Light Katikamu convincingly out-muscled Taggy 5-0.
Uganda Women Football Association (UWFA) chairperson Enfrance Nanjengo flanked by the chairman Buganda Region Football Association Sulaiman Sejjengo, Harriet Nattabi, Rhoida Nambi, Richard Byamukama, Hamidu Kasozi, Kim Walusimbi and Mariam Nakulima are some of the dignitaries who graced the opening ceremony.
Walusimbi, the league secretary believes there is a lot of potential from the young footballers whose need the exposure at every cost and opportunity.
In an exclusive interview with Kawowo Sports, Walusimbi noted;
The start was brilliant and it was a great plat form for the young girls who also had primary pupils to be part and parcel of the Buganda Regional Women League. The future of Women Football is definitely bright in Uganda.
The league will resume this Sunday with a host of games at Bugema University starting at 9 a.m.
Only one club shall be promoted to the Women Elite League for the upcoming season 2017/18.
