KCCA coach Mike Mutebi labeled his side’s performance in the 2-1 win over Club Africain in the CAF Confederation Cup as the season’s best so far.

The Ugandan champions rallied from a goal down to edge the former African champions at Phillip Omondi stadium in to earn their first ever group stages win in continental competition.

“This was our best match of the season,” a happy Mutebi told the press in a post-match conference. “We were tactically fantastic. We were in command from the word go, pressing in midfield and disorganized their midfield,” he added.

The players played with confidence and belief. The more they master the way we are supposed to play then we are going to be a very dangerous team.

Prior to the win, KCCA hadn’t scored more than once on the continent and when they went down, it left a lot of questions on a possible comeback to pick maximum points.

But the gaffer says he had belief in a comeback and hailed his charges for the character as well.

We showed belief that we can compete with the best on the continent. We conceded but how do we react. Ugandan teams usually think that it is finished when we concede but the belief that we can do it.

Coming from a goal down and playing our way shows players have started believing in themselves and that they can compete with the best players on the continent. It is good for the players’ confidence and our project.

KCCA now turn attention to the Uganda Cup semi-final first leg where they host rivals Express FC on Friday at Lugogo before hosting Rivers United of Nigeria on the first weekend of June.
