Mamelodi Sundowns’ 2 all draw away to Highland Park at the Makhulong stadium was a result they needed most as they secured second spot in the final Absa Premiership League log.

Dennis Onyango’s side needed to win to secure second spot, but their rivals for the second spot Cape Town City slipped up against Polokwane City to ease the pressure on the African champions.

Themba Zwane and a Thabo Nthete penalty gave the Brazilians at some stage of the game.

The Highlanders replied through Seun Ledwaba and a late Mothobi Mvala header to earn a point which was not enough to save  lions of the North  from being relegated.

Mamelodi Sundowns now finish in second place on the final log and a spot in the CAF Champions League.

Focus for Onyango now turns to the on-going CAF Champions league group stages as well as the Uganda Cranes duty when he kick-starts the career as captain since the retirement of Geofrey Massa.

Mamelodi Sundowns Line up:

Denis Onyango (G.K), Thapelo Morena, Thabo Nthete,, Motjeka Madisha, Anele Ngconca , (Siyanda Zwane) Tebogo Langerman, Lucky Mohomi, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Yannick Zakri, Themba Zwane, Percy Tau.
