Mali became the first country to retain the CAF U-17 title after a hard fought 1-0 victory over Ghana at the Stade De L’amitie, Angondje on Sunday.

Seme Camara was the hero after scoring the only goal from a rebound after a penalty miss in the 20th minute.

This was the first time that a defending champion successfully secured the title.

Mali’s Aiglonnets joined the rank of countries like  Nigeria, Ghana and the Gambia that have won the title twice since  championship was launched in 1995.

Mohammed Camara of Mali was awarded the man of the match accolade.

In the third place play off, Guinea outwitted Niger 3-1 to take bronze.

Mali as champions will lead the continent’s quartet including Ghana, Guinea and Niger to the forthcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup to be hosted in India in October.
