Buganda Kingdom sports department has on Tuesday officially unveiled a Special Sports Appeals Committee.
The new committee was officially disclosed to the media and handed over the instruments of power by the Kingdom Sports Minister Owek. Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu at his Bulange, Mengo based offices.
Veteran former CAF match commissioner and FUFA delegate, Professor Isaac M.N Kigongo Bukenya, 71, is the committee chairperson.
He will be assisted by Omutaka Peter Magoba Kayima who is the vice chairman.
Tried and tested football administrator Hajjati Aisha Nalule is the committee secretary.
The Harunah entity of Kyobe and Ndawula Mawanda shall serve as the committee members.
Minister Ssekabembe clarified to the media that this trusted committee will handle the appeal cases for the respective clans, counties (Masaza’s) and schools competitions of the Kingdom.
In view of ensuring transparency and fair play, it has been deemed necessary to initiate such a committee.
The committee is one of the official judicial bodies in the structure of football worldwide.
The essence of sports within Buganda Kingdom is to mobilize, identify, expose and develop talents, involve the youth in sports activities as well as enhance visibility of the Kingdom by building all key structures.
Immediate work tasks:
Ssekabembe noted that by creation of such a committee, the Kingdom is not pressing a panic button since it has been long over due to have an independent committee separated from the Buganda General Sports Council, which has been handling such work.
Given such a background, the work tasks for the committee take immediate effect owing to the pending cases filed in the Airtel Buganda football masaza matches involving Buluri against Kyaggwe and Buwekula against Singo who re-appealed.
In his brief address to the media, the new appeals committee chairperson Professor Bukenya, a former footballer in the 1960’s, retired referee, CAF match commissioner, FUFA delegate and educationalist expressed gratitude towards being trusted to head such a committee.

The committee is expected to hold their maiden meeting on Wednesday morning at Mengo in Kampala.
The Buganda Masaza football organizing committee chairperson Sulaiman Ssenjengo together with the secretary also attended the meeting cum media briefing.
