Moses Mpiriirwe was part of the Hamburg Hurricanes squad that finished as champions for the Germany 6th division league of the season 2016/2017.

A 4-0 home victory against Meiendorf enabled the men in pink finish top aloft of the rest with 57 points from 25 games, three points better than second placed Tus Berne and seven adrift of third placed Holsbuttel.

The sweet and befitting reward is promotion to the Kreisklasse A after only their first season as a Registered Association.

The Hurricanes recovered from a slow start to the season having been 10 points behind the leaders at the opening stages.

It was the timely arrival of a couple of new talents on board including Ugandan striker Moses Mperiirwe that resurrected their aspirations and dreams.

The multi-national team with more than 25 nationalities from all over the planet shocked everyone including themselves with a remarkable come back.

With 27 games (two match results were removed), they collected 21 victories, 3 draws and losses apiece, amassing 57 points.

A total of 85 goals were scored, including 6 precious ones off the feet of the fast improving Mpiriirwe, a born and bred product of Entebbe town on the famous Lake Victoria Peninsular.

They conceded 28 goals, accumulated 47 yellow cards and restricted the send offs to just two.

An official club statement lauded the opposition for the healthy competition, their own players for the great display and the awesome media.

Congratulations to all our opponents for giving us such an exciting season and suspense until the very last game.

Thanks to all our players for giving everything on and outside the pitch.

To our fans, thanks for always believing in us and giving us the edge in the difficult moments and to our beloved Sponsor Paddy’s Bar Hamburg for supporting us for now two years.

To the excited Ugandan on the team who spoke to Kawowo Sports after their last game of the season, he believes the victory is a mere stepping stone in the life cycle of the clubs.

Mpiriirwe was a mid-season hot signing and indeed delivered home the goods with six stunning strikes including an acrobatic volley, possibly best suited to be ranked among the incredible goals of the season.

He spent the latter part of the season in the sick bay and cheering on the teammates with the due passion after suffering an injury;

I thank all my teammates for the incredible season.

We started slowly but finished gallantly and strong.

I thank the team management, technical experts and coaches, doctors, fans and the supportive media both here in Germany and in Uganda, especially Kawowo Sports.

I dedicate this victory to my beloved wife and family.

Hamburg Hurricanes will  start pre-season mid June 2017 with the first game expected on the 20th of July.
