Long serving football administrator Faisal Muhammed has bounced back to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) supreme body as one of the delegates for the second division clubs.
Faisal was on Monday voted unopposed among the 8 delegates to represent the second highest tier division clubs in the FUFA Big League.
This was during the elections conducted on Monday afternoon at the home of football in Uganda – Mengo, Kampala.
Director of the recently relegated Jinja Municipal Council (JMC) Hippos, Faisal was and has been among the outspoken and vocal delegates in the FUFA assembly.
In an exclusive interview with Kawowo Sports on Monday shortly after being declared by FUFA Electoral committee vice chairman Yusuf Awuye, Faisal expressed gratitude upon being entrusted with the mantle to steer football to yet another level.
I am happy to be back as football delegate.
As usual, I will serve the interests of football.
I am for people who have been serving the game and nobody can ever buy my conscience.
No single amount can ever buy thoughts, passion and love for football. Football is in my blood.
I will therefore serve without fear or favour.
Popularly regarded as the god-father of football in Eastern Uganda, Faisal has served football to the brim.
His vast experience and knowledge in football management has seen him serve under various regimes spelling to as far back as Twaha Kakaire, Dennis Obua, Lawrence Mulindwa to the reigning government of Moses Magogo.
Other FUFA Big League delegates:
The other successful delegates to represent the Big League who were declared on Monday include Airtel Kitara’s chairman Dennis Musinguzi, Norman Ssemwanga, Synergy’s coach Brian Ssenyondo, Hassan Kirunda Kakaire (Kataka F.C, Mbale), Apollo Ahimbisibwe (Ntinda United), Paul Mark Kayongo (Ndejje University) and Alfred Odaga.
On the same day, the Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) also voted for their three representatives to the FUFA general assembly.
Former FIFA referee Ronnie Kalema tallied a massive 42 votes and was accorded a standing ovation as he paved way for the victory speech.
Kalema will be joined by Muhammed Shaban Ndawula (38 votes) and the only lady, Rosebell Rwamuyamba (36 votes).
Iron lady, Catherine Adipo pulled out of the race at the 11th hour but still managed to get 3 ‘stray votes’.
Meanwhile, the UFRA executive committee will be chaired by Kalema.
David Davis Katabira and Adipo are the committee 1st and 2nd vice chairmen respectively.
Sober minded and calm FIFA referee Brian Miiro Nsubuga is the treasurer.
The committee members are; Joseph Ochom, Ben Adrole, Issa Masembe, Lydia Nantabo Wanyama and Freddie Wanyama.
These two special interest groups will be followed by the coaches and players’ representatives on Tuesday.
Uganda Beach Soccer, Schools and Youth Football Associations will have the elections conducted on Wednesday, 7th June 2017.
