When the National Chess League commences two weeks from now, City Chess Club will be a defunct club.
This follows Albert Otete’s (City Chess Club owner) decision to dissolve the club.
Sources inside the club say Otete decided to disband the club because ‘he wasn’t satisfied with the way the federation was doing things’.
City was home to among other players, International Master IM Elijah Emojong and Woman Fide Master WFM Christine Namaganda. The side finished third in the league last season behind record league winners Dmark and the champions Kireka.
“It came as a surprise to me but I think the patron felt it was wise. It’s not clear if he’ll be back. Personally even when he gets back, I won’t be with them. I have been playing for Equity Bank in Kenya and I’m likely to join Kireka here in Uganda,” Emojong said.
Meanwhile Namaganda is joining Dmark.
