Two Uganda Cranes’ players Robert Odongkara and Yassar Mugerwa guided record Ethiopia Premier League club, St George to unprecedented 14th title on Saturday in Addis Ababa.

This is the fourth time in a row that St George return to the podium as league winners.

The Addis Ababa based club defeated Ethiopia Nigid Bank 1-0, finishing with 62 points from 30 matches.

Ivory Coast import, Bruno Kone scored the all important goal for the winning side who were confirmed winners a couple of weeks ago with four matches to play.

Dedebit and Adama Kenema followed as second and third respectively.

New sides Jimma Aba Buna and Addis-Ababa Kenema were relegated to the second division league. Ethiopia Nigid Bank, one of the oldest clubs in Ethiopia also got demoted.

Another Ugandan, Kirizestom Ntambi was in tears as his club Jimma Aba Buna was relegated.

Goalkeeper Odongkara, who missed the last five games of the season with an injury saluted team work and commitment for yet another victory.

“We are happy for this victory. It has been down to teamwork and commitment. I thank the players, coaches, media and dear fans,” Odongkara stated.

Dedebit’s Getaneh Kebede scored 25 goals in the season breaking the 16-year long national record of 24 goals in one season, a record that was held by Yordanos Abay.

Over the weekend, St.George will play host to the CAF Champions League reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns in Addis Ababa.
