The baby cricket cranes were able to get off to a good start – defeating a Kenyan select side by 187 runs in their 1st warm up game.

Kenneth Waiswa won the toss for Uganda and elected to bat 1st.

Zephaniah Katungi (14) and Ronald Opio (21) put on 30 for the 1st wicket but in a combined team batting effort every one made a contribution.

The spine of the team which is the strong middle order scored the bulk of the runs with Rogers Olipa (55), Frank Akankwatsa (41) the heaviest contributors.

Team Captain Kenneth Waiswa (34) chipped in with Agaba (24) Trevor Bukenya (25) and Nsubuga Sirage (20 not out) all contributing to the 272/9 scored by Uganda in their 50 overs.

Im reply, Trevor Bukenya thrilled in the windy conditions at the Kanbis Sports Ground returning figures of 4/27  in 9 overs with 3 maidens.

The kenya Select side could never recover after being reduced to 29/7 inside 10 overs. The support cast included Agaba Eddie (2/8), Rogers Olipa (1/4) Frank Akankwasa (1/17) and Nsubuga Sirage (1/16). The select side was eventually bundled out for 85.

The youngsters play their second warm up game as they prepare for their opening encounter against Botswana on July 1st.
