In the aftermath of Everton’s 2-1 win over Gor Mahia in a pre-season friendly in Tanzania, Ronald Koeman has praised the Kenyan side for the good display.
The English Premier League side scored through returning Wayne Rooney and Kierran Dowell to render Jacques Tuyisenge’s leveller in the first half consolation.
“It was a good game but a difficult one,” said Koeman. “Gor Mahia made it tough for us. They dropped their intensity a little bit in the second half and we were the better team with fresh players,” he added.
They were a good team and made it hard for us to find our extra man in midfield. They can be proud of their performance and I want to give them a lot of compliments for making it so tough for us.
The Dutchman was also pleased with the way his side responded given it was the first game of their 2017-18 pre-season campaign.
Overall, I’m happy. It was our first friendly – we saw the difference in the second half and we created good chances to score more goals.
The 1995 FA Cup winners spent two days in the East African nation and Koeman whose side will represent England in the Europa League next year says he enjoyed every bit of time in Dar es Salaam.
I have really enjoyed my time here. I enjoyed the intensity of the friendly as well. It has been a positive trip.
Everton finished the previous season 6th in the 20-man EPL log.
