Starting 2019, the Africa Cup of Nations will be contested by 24 teams from 16, confirms the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This was passed by the CAF Executive Committee at the ongoing symposium in Rabat, Morocco.
The proposal is one of the many raised at the symposium with the decision on whether the finals should be moved from January/February to June/July still awaited.
It remains to be seen how this will affect the qualification campaign for the event to be held in Cameroon.
The change is one of the many expected under the presidency of newly elected leader, Ahmad Ahmad.
