After releasing over ten players from last season, Police FC have unveiled eight new players ahead of the 2017-18 season.
This was at Police Training School, Kibuli on Friday in a function attended by among others club Chairman, Asan Kasingye, Vice Chairman Edward Ochom and the technical team.
The new players include Juma Balinya, an attacking midfielder from Lweza, goalkeeper Simon Tamale from Lungujja Galaxy and exciting midfield gem, Albert Mugisa from Ndejje.
Others are Sam Kayongo from Kiira United, Shakur Makeera (Nkumba University) plus the duo of forwards Norman Ojik and Saafi Basan.
Speaking to the press, Coach Abdallah Mubiru said that recruitment was based on areas where he though was lacking from last season.
“Having been for six months, I realised where we were lacking as a team,” Mubiru told the press. “From that, we made the decisions on the players and we are confident in the squad,” he added.
With support from the management, we expect to be competitive as opposed to last season.
Kasingye also promised the new boys and the whole team support and he says the goal is to avoid the pressure of surviving relegation last season.
“Last season caused us a lot of heartache,” he said. “We target something different this time round,” he added before promising total support to the team.
I can assure you that we (management), shall give you all the support you need. We have the resources to compete with any team in the league. This team is capable of winning the title.
Meanwhile, the club also exercised options to make loan deals for defenders Martin Mpuuga and Paul Willa plus midfielder Yasin Mugume permanent.
The trio like other new boys signed two year deals that will keep them at the 2005 league champions till 2019.
Police finished the previous campaign 13th on the log and survived relegation on the final day of the season.
