Moses Basena says he is ready for the Uganda Cranes job, hours after being appointed on the interim.

The announcement was made on Monday by FUFA president Moses Magogo revealing the Basena and Fred Kajoba will take charge of the national team until Cranes play Egypt home and away.

The UPDF tactician says he isn’t worried about the new responsibility insisting it’s the job he has been doing though in a different position.

“Why not?” Basena replied when asked his readiness to take over from the Serb that resigned over four months’ arrears.

It’s the job I have been doing. Only that I have doing it in a different post as an assistant.

Basena, who also worked as Micho’s assistant at SC Villa in early 2000s further said that whatever the national team achieved, it was as a team and so are the failures.

He (Micho) may have failed or excelled without me but what he achieved with me and Kajoba are team achievements. I wish things remain same in terms of how we have been doing the job.

We have always had sleepless nights with him on strategizing and the like, that’s how good he was.

It’s understood that Uganda Cranes assistants only get paid allowances but not salaries.

But now that the two have been elevated, a change in payment structure is likely to change with the FUFA president Moses Magogo confirming the two will get all the needed support to do their job.

As FUFA, we sat as a family (officials and immediate former players) and decided that Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba carry on an interim basis until after the Egypt matches home and away. We shall give them all the due support they deserve.

Basena hopes Magogo and his executive lives by the word to offer the support.

When he entrusts us with the job, I also trust the FUFA Executive because I believe they know what it means to manage a national team.

The last time Uganda Cranes had a local coach was in mid 2000s when Mike Mutebi and Frank ‘Video’ Anyau handled the team.
