The Rwanda national team, Amavubi Stars on Monday started training in preparation for the two legged second round Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament qualifier against the Uganda Cranes.

Training was held at the Kigali regional stadium, Nyamirambo under the close supervision of head coach Antonie Hey. The team is staying at Golden Tulip hotel in Nyamata, Bugesera District.

Rwanda ejected Tanzania after a one all aggregate draw with the treasured away goal scored in Mwanza during the first leg. On the other hand, Uganda eliminated South Sudan 5-1 in a game KCCA forward Paul Mucureezi scored 4 goals.

Uganda Cranes will start life without former head coach Milutin Sredojevic who terminated his contract last Friday. Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba were on Monday appointed as the new interim coaches with back-to-back games against Rwanda (CHAN 2018 qualifiers) and Egypt (2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers) in the pipeline.

The first leg of the CHAN 2018 qualifier will be played on August 12 at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende.
The return leg shall take place in Kigali, seven days later. The winner of the two legged encounter will qualify to the finals slated for January in Kenya.

CHAN is a tournament played by the locally based players in the respective domestic leagues on the African continent. Democratic Republic of Congo is the defending champion.
