Ex-Kenya and Burundi National team coach Adel Amrouche has shown interest in replacing Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic as Uganda Cranes coach.

The 49 year old former Algerian midfielder, also former coach at DR Congo’s DC Motema Pembe, Equatorial Guinea and Algeria’s USM Algers says he can’t no say to the job if availed praising Uganda for having great players.

“I cannot say no to coaching Uganda,” he told Kawowo Sports in an exclusive interview. “I want to work with great players like Dennis Onyango, Farouk Miya and all the others,” he added.

Amrouche, who guided Kenya to the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup title in 2013 believes Uganda is arguably among the top ten footballing nations on the continent after he closely followed them during his Kenya and Burundi tenure and admits they have now improved a lot.

In my opinion, Uganda are one of the top ten nations in Africa. When I was coaching the Kenya and Burundi national teams, I closely followed the Cranes, they dominated several Cecafa tournaments. Now they have a solid team competing in the Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

FUFA has already confirmed local coaches Fred Kajoba and Moses Basena to handle the ties against Egypt and the DR Congo league winner with DC Motema Pembe says The Cranes have the capacity to overcome the Pharaohs.

Uganda can beat Egypt. When I arrived in Kenya, there was no hope. We went to Nigeria for a crucial game, got mistreated but still drew with them 1-1 in Calabar. Then there was hope after that from the fans and players. Qualification to the World Cup is possible.

Amrouche holds a CAF A coaching license, and UEFA Pro License he attained in 2013-14 among other qualifications.

While in Kenya, he is credited with nurturing and giving chances to David “Calabar” Owino (Zambia), David “Cheche” Ochieng (USA), Francis Kahata, Allan Wanga, Aboud Omar (Bulgaria).

Other coaches that have shown interest in the Cranes job include Bobby Williamson and Lucy Eymael among others.

The FA confirmed on Monday that they are yet to ask for application to find Micho’s permanent replacement.
