Uganda Golf Club captain Joseph Bagabo believes the course will be in the best shape ever by the time the 75th Uganda Golf championship tees off in Kampala.

Bagabo says all work is underway on the par 72 golfing facility located in the famous Kitante swamp.

In an exclusive interview with Kawowo Sports, Bagabo explained;

We have upped the on-going works on the entire course.

The fairways, greens and rough areas are being worked upon.

The course will be exciting as well as challenging to golfers with new bunkers and water harzards in place

In fact, there is a complete re-design of the course  with water features on holes 4 and 10. Challenging bunkers on 12 and 18.

Last year, the management of the club hired a South African based consultant, Dawie Kynsmith to fine tune the course ahead of the open.

Bagabo acknowledges the good work done by Kynsmith in conjunction with Gad Musasizi as well as the green keepers on the course.

He (the consultant) did a great commendable job. In fact, up to now, we are still following some of his recommendations.

The 75th edition of the Amateurs’ Championship will tee off on 13th and climax on 16th September 2017 over 4 rounds.

This will have followed the ladies championship that starts 7th September for three days.

The Pro Arm (will tee off 25th September 2017) before the professionals event will climax the series between 27th to the 30th September 2017.

Last year’s amateur winner Ronald Otile (now on studies in South Africa) and pro champion Joshua Seale  will return to defend their titles.

There will surely be a new lady winner because the reigning champion, Flavia Namakula turned pro.

Lady golfers as Eve Magala, Irene Nakalema, Tanzanians Eaton Angel and Madina Hussein are favourites.

Close to 500 golfers are expected to take part in this year’s open.

Invitations have been sent to golfers from Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa.

The tourney was officially launched on Wednesday at Uganda Golf Club premises in Kampala.
