As Onduparaka Football Club once again attained a big milestone, the mood at the Orange Hall of Hotel Africana in Kampala on Monday was idyllic.

Journalists eagerly awaited for the big announcement in an event also graced by the newly appointed club captain Rashid Toha, talisman Muhammed Shaban, patron Bernard Atiku, CEO Anthony Afeti, as well as the sponsors’ representatives Adellah Agaba and Anton Opperman.

Betway announced a Shs.600M package for the  Arua based Uganda Premier League side for the upcoming season, 2017-18.

Anton Opperman, the betting firm’s country manager reaffirmed the company’s overwhelming desire to support sports in the country, with a case study of Onduparaka F.C in football, boxing, basketball, rugby and lately pool.

We achieved most of our targets that we anticipated when we started to sponsor Onduparaka. For this reason, there was enough justification to renew the deal for another year.

We are impressed by the vibrant growth of the club. There is also a goal to expose players to international platforms.

We thank the fans, all stake holders – UPL, FUFA, Ministry of Education and Sports, Members of Parliament and the media.

The Shs.600M sponsorship package will cover the remuneration of players, allowances, transport, equipment (training and match day kits) as well as any other necessities at the club.

The patron of Onduparaka F.C, Bernard Atiku, also the member of parliament for Anyivu county hailed the company’s selfless love for the mega sponsorship.

We are grateful that Betway chose to partner with us. We are proud of ourselves. Onduparaka F.C also managed to scoop the best fans of the season award.

Atiku vowed for an even better season ahead citing a few lessons learnt from the previous term which was the club’s debut in top flight.

Last season was a learning curve for us. We had a challenge of in disciplined fans but we ran different campaigns to educate our fans against the ills of violence.

We promise to improve further in administration, fans’ mobilization and sensitization.

The new club captain Toha portrayed an energized entity as he sounded energized about the new deal.

“As players, we are motivated further by this new deal. We shall continue to train hard and give our best on the field of play. We want to have an improved performance from last season’s,” Toha  noted.

The towering center half was flanked by the immediate former captain Shaban at the unveiling ceremony.

Onduparaka will host Proline on Tuesday, 12th September 2017 at the Green Light Stadium in the populous Arua town.
