Tanzania lady golfer Angel Eaton is the day one leader at the 2017 Uganda Ladies Golf open.

The handicap 5 golfer returned a 4 –over par 76 scoreline in the first of the opening 18 holes on day one at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala, Thursday.

Eaton, who won this open back to back in 2012 and 2013 vowed to improve his play enroute claiming her third championship.

I am glad to lead on day one. I will better my putting in the subsequent days so that I win this championship

The Dar es salaam based long hitting golfer had two birdie scores on the front 9 (5 and 8 holes) and one on hole 15 during the back 9.

Another Tanzanian Iddi Madina, handicap 3 tied on second place with Kenya’s Agnes Nyakio and Uganda’s Martha Babirye with a 5 over par 77 gross score.

Pre-tournament favorite, Irene Nakalembe from Entebbe Club is two strokes behind on 78 as Palm Valley Kakungulu’s Meron Kyomugisha chases for 3 with 79 gross.

Kenya’s Nzioka Mwongeli (81), Gloria Mbaguta (82), Mercy Nyanchama (82) and Harriet Kitaka (83) complete the top 10 places by the close of business on day one.

Day two tees off on Friday morning at 7 a.m. There are about 50 lady golfers with a lion’s share coming from Uganda.

Neighbours Tanzania follow closely with 20, Nigeria fielded 9 and Kenya four.

Over 3 days, 54 holes will be played with the subsidiary catergory expected to join the frey on Saturday (the closing day).

The defending champion of this tournament, Flavia Namakula has since turned professional.
