As the women golfers swing into action on the final day of the 2017 Uganda Ladies golf open, it remains a close contest to predict who will smile to the podium with the overall winner’s gong.

Gymkhana Club golfer Iddy Madina, Dar es Salaam based Angel Eaton, Uganda’s duo of Irene Nakalembe and Martha Babirye as well as Kenya’s Agnes Nyakio all have a chance to claim the trophy.

Madina and day one leader Eaton carry a joint 157 strokes lead after 36 holes, a stroke better of Nakalembe and Babirye.

Kenyan Nyakio closely follows with 159 strokes.

Golfers had a poor show at office during day two action with dismal scores.

Only Tanzania’s Hawa Wanyeche (Handicap 5) had a course 4-over par 76 gross scoreline on day 2 to better her 90 strokes on day one.

However, Wanyeche chases for 9 as the final day swings into action on Saturday.

The pressure group of the leading 4 golfers Madina, Eaton, Nakalembe and Babirye tees off at 1:30 p.m.

These will follow the second pressure group of Glora Mbaguta, Evah Magala, Hawa Wanyeche and Mercy Nankyama at 1:20 p.m.

The ladies open was won by Namakula last year who has since turned professional.

After the ladies championship, action will swing to the men championship next week in which close to 200 golfers will tee off at the 75th Uganda Amateurs event.

The Pro Arm and professionals’ event will climax the 2017 Uganda open series.
