- Vipers SC Vs SC Villa – St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende 4pm
All roads lead to St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende where hosts Vipers seek to avenge last season’s double win for visiting SC Villa.
The Jogoos ended a run of 12 consecutive league matches without victory over their nemesis with 2-1 and 1-0 win over the Venoms away and at home respectively.
One of the key figures in the wins was Taddeo Lwanga – skipper at Villa Park then who now plies his trade with the opponents.
Much attention will be on him to showcase what the 16-time league champions missed on letting him go as he also tries to prove why he was big asset to the side that finished second last season.
Coach Wasswa Bbosa has described the match as no different from any other despite the increasing growing rivalry between the sides.
“We treat it as a usual game,” he told Kawowo Sports. “It’s three points at stake like in any other fixture and that’s what we shall fight for,” he added.
The same sentiments were echoed by Portuguese Duarte Miguel Da Costa who is in charge at Vipers in the aftermath of a slim 1-0 win over Bul FC last week.
“It’s a game where the target remains same – 3 points,” he said.
Congolese forward Moussa Clovis Mbayi and defender of the year Halid Lwaliwa are still sidelined for Vipers but good news is the return of striker Duncan Sseninde and midfield gem Moses Waiswa.
The duo played over 60 minutes in a practice match in midweek and will most likely be considered for the game.
Villa have right back Musa Mukasa (typhoid) ruled out while midfielders Allan Kyambadde, Ambrose Kirya and Vitalis Tabu are all doubts with the same cases.
However, they have a chance to make the team together with defender Henry Katongole who is also sidelined but managed to train with the team on Thursday.
Good news though is the availability of new signing Nicholas Kasozi who has been cleared to feature for the club following a standoff with his former bosses Synergy FC and Simon Sserunkuma also returns after missing the 1-1 draw with Police FC last weekend.
- Both teams are tied on four points after two games although SC Villa is above the Venoms with more goals scored.
- SC Villa has won just 2 of the previous 14 league meetings, Vipers won 6 and there have been 6 draws since the 2010/11 campaign.
- In the process, Vipers have scored 22 goals against SC Villa’s 14.
- Vipers have not won at home against SC Villa in the previous four league meetings; 3 draws and 1 loss.
- Vipers’ last home win against SC Villa came in the 2012/13 season at Buikwe.
