Uganda national 7s coach Tolbert Onyango has branded every team that will compete in the Rugby Africa tournament as a threat despite his side carrying defending champion status.

The Cranes defeated Namibia 38-19 in the cup final last year to be crowned Africa Cup Sevens champions at the Moi Kasarani Safaricom Stadium.

Onyango who believes the showpiece being on home soil is an added advantage says the side can’t take anyone for granted.

“We have to be better than we were last year,” he told World Rugby’s official website.

“Based on results from various tournaments in Africa, it is clear that other countries have made huge strides since then.

“All the teams will be coming to Kampala looking to pick up one of those two coveted spots for the World Cup. Everyone is a threat.”

Uganda is going to be led by team captain Eric Kasiita and assistant Philip Wokorach as the side seeks a slot at the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens.

A place at the Hong Kong Sevens qualifier tournament from which two teams will compete for a chance to gain core status in the 2018 World Rugby Sevens series will also be at stake.
