Kenya has confirmed its participation in the Cricket Builds Hope Tournament joining neighbours Uganda and 5 other invitational teams teams who will face off with hosts Rwanda.
The 8 team tournament will run from 22nd-29th October and includes the East African nations of Kenya, Uganda and hosts Rwanda which will compete with 5 invitational teams from the UK.
The teams have been divided into 2 groups of 4 and will compete in a T20 format with the top 2 sides in each group qualifying for the semis.
The games will be played at the new Gahanga Ground and the old Kicukiro Ground.
The tournament is a lead up to the official opening of the Gahanga Cricket Stadium on October 28th October with a celebrity cricket game between a Brian Lara Select XI and a Michael Vaughan XI.
Rwanda Cricket Development Manager as well as coach of the Rwanda Side Davis Turinawe spoke to us about what is expected during the week long event.
Kenya and Uganda have honored our invitations and sent teams for the tournament. Uganda is sending a strong side while Kenya is bringing their World Cup bound U19 team.
For the celebrity game we expect some legends Brian Lara, Makhaya Ntini, Steve Tikolo (current Ugandan Coach), Michael Vaughan and Sam Billings so it should be a lot of fun.
The Ugandan team features many players from U23 set up but has some national team players as Deus Muhumuza, Brian Masaba, Arnold Otwani and will be captained by Roger Mukasa.
Steve Tikolo and his assistants Michael Ndiko and Jackson Ogwang will be in charge of the team with Jackson Kavuma debuting as team manager.
The team will depart for Kigali on Saturday and will be facing Yorkshire team in their fst game on Sunday afternoon on the Kicukiro Ground.
