Martin Kizza came off the bench to strike the winner as SC Villa edged KCCA in Masaka Recreation Ground to end a five-year run without victory against their nemesis.

Allan Kyambadde had put the hosts in the lead early in the first half before Timothy Awany headed home with ten minutes left on the clock.

Wasswa Bbosa’s charges began the game brilliantly and deservedly took the lead after four minutes.

A cross from the right by Godfrey Lwesibawa was headed away by Habib Kavuma only to find Kyambadde who controlled precisely before sending a fierce shot that caught goalie Ben Ochan unaware to send the crowd into rapture.

SC Villa should have had a second moments later but Mustapha Kizza blocked a goal bound attempt from Alex Kitaata and the striker later miscued with goal at his glance after a brilliant pass from Abel Eturude.

Mike Mutebi was forced to make a change after the half hour mark withdrawing Allan Kateregga for Ibrahim Saddam Juma and the move began to give the visitors control in the middle.

It was 1-0 at half time and minutes into the second stanza, Derrick Nsibambi and Isaac Muleme replaced Patrick Kaddu and Kizza respectively as the Kasasiro searched for a leveller.

The hosts were then forced into a change with Martin Kizza coming on for the injured Kyambadde while Kitaata paved way for Yubu Bogere.

There was another forced change for the Jogoos as left back John Adriko limped off with Musa Mukasa taking his place.

The hosts then resorted to hitting the visitors on the break as they sat behind to defend their goal but a free kick was awarded for foul on Tito Okello and from Saddam Juma delivery, Samson Kirya fumbled with the ball and it hit Awany on the head settling in the net in the 80th minute.

With everything pointing to a stalemate, SC Villa won a free kick on the right and Ibrahim Kiyemba whipped it in the box for Kizza to head home.

The score line could have been different but Filbert Obenchan denied Kizza a brace when he blocked his effort after some good work down the right by Bogere who turned Kavuma inside out.

The win lifts SC Villa to third on the log with 12 points, two more than KCCA who dropped to sixth and as many adrift of log leaders Onduparaka.
