Ahead of Monday’s CHAN 2018 encounter against Ivory Coast, Uganda Cranes’ coach Sebastien Desabre is hoping his men will convert the chances.
Uganda has not delivered as expected on the final touch and that’s the same worry Desabre has been harboring ahead of this crunch tie.
Uganda lost to Namibia (1-0) and Zambia (3-1) to bow out of the competition just like Ivory Coast that lost to same opposition 1-0 and 2-0 respectively.
Desabre says his target now is finish third by frustrating the West Africans especially with an extra $25,000 (over Ugx. 90 million) for whoever will finish third in the group B.
“Our target is now to finish third in the group,” the 41-year old told CAF’s official website.
“We want the maximum points against Cote d’Ivoire. I know the league in Cote d’Ivoire because I was there for two years. I know some of the players but I have to stay focus.
We didn’t qualify for the quarter finals because of some weaknesses but I will ask my players to continue playing good football.
I hope they can covert the chances that will come their way. It is important to stay third and I hope we can achieve that by beating Cote d’Ivoire, which is an equally good team.
Uganda has previously finished third in the 2014 and 2016 editions.
