Day one leaders:

The first ever Kitante Golf Open teed off on Liberation day with 230 players in action for the two day’s championship at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.

Amidst the early morning rains, action progressed smoothly.

By the close of business for the first 18 holes on day one.

Mbuso Gwafila, playing off handicap 28 broke the tip of the ice berg with the famous day one leadership bragging rights when he returned to the club house 96 gross which in turn had the best net score of 68 (count back).

Handicap 9 golfer Dave Plendereith tallied a total gross score of 77 (course 5 over par) which is 68 nett for the joint top slot.

Lim Lim, a handicap 12 golfer returned 81 gross to tie jointly on 69 nett with Michael Tumusiime (handicap 4).

Tumusiime scored 73 gross (69 nett).

Colonel Bhagat with 70 Nett completed the list of the top five golfers on day one.

Two time Uganda amateur’s golf winner Ronald Otile was 6 over par – 78.

Ladies:

Rossette Tugume scored 73 nett to lead the ladies’ catergory on count back, ahead of Rose Azuba (handicap 13) who scored 86 gross (73 nett).

Ruth Ssali also scored 73 nett to set up day’s two pressure group ahead of the tourney climax.

Dr. Katy Kabenge and Tian Qiu Xiang jointly tied on 74 nett as they completed the top five slots.

Day two teed off on Saturday with the official tee off by Airtel Uganda Limited.

“Action has so far progressed well. We shall merry make at the famous 19th hole on day two with good prizes” Uganda Golf Club captain, Joseph Bagabo stated.

Telecommunications giants Airtel Uganda leads the bandwagon of sponsors on board that include Crown Beveragas, Center Motors and Liberty Insurance Company.

A brand new Kia Sorento model car awaits that successful golfer who will play a hole in one shot on the par 3 hole number 11.

The tournament shall be an annual championship.
