  • Vipers 2-0 Onduparaka

Vipers beat Arua side Onduparaka 2-0 in the Uganda Premier league on Tuesday to close gap onto the leaders, Sports Club Villa Jogoo.

Two quick first half goals from Milton Karisa and Erisa Ssekisambu gave Miguel Da Costa’s charges the early advantage into the game at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in Kitende.

Karisa shot the Venoms ahead after just seven minutes into the game moments after Daniel ‘Muzei’ Sserunkuma had been denied by the visitors’ goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato.

Ssekisambu, who has now scored three goals against the Catarpillars in all competitions doubled the lead two minutes later.

Midfielder Moses Waiswa shredded an early injury scare as he returned to the Kitende lush more aggressive but with precision.

The Caterpillars called for the first change of the game on the opening half an hour of the game when teenager Ezra Bidda was withdrawn for Living Kabon.

It took Kabon just four minutes after his introduction to get cautioned by FIFA woman referee Aisha Nabikko Ssemambo before Vipers captain Nico Wakiro Wadada was also booked for unsporting conduct as the half time ended 2-0 in favour of the home team.

Sserunkuma was withdrawn for holding midfielder Deus Bukenya towards the end of the game.

Onduparaka goalie Ssebwato was also booked in the dying minutes of the game.

Vipers’ defender Bashir Asiku was cautioned as well.

Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre watched the game at Kitende.

This was Vipers’ successive victory of the second round after the 1-0 victory on the road to Soana last Saturday.

It was once again misery for Onduparaka who also fell 4-1 at Kitende during the last time of their visit.

Waiswa was named the ForteBet man of the match.

Vipers now has 32 points from 17 games played, one point shy of leaders SC Villa Jogoo, who have played a game less.

Villa takes on KCCA on Thursday at Lugogo.
