FUFA Drum: Opening Match (Saturday 24th February, 2018)

  • Busoga Vs Bugisu
  • At the Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe – Jinja (4 pm)

In light of the bold fact that a football game involves only three options – winning, drawing and losing, Bugisu Province head coach, Godfrey ‘Toldo’ Awach only believes and dreams of the former – to win.

Toldo, a former goalkeeper at FUFA Big League outfit, Kataka Football Club is also head coach of the same team, noted that all the efforts have been worked towards building a winning team.

In football, one expects a win, draw or loss. I am not thinking of the third option and my objective is to win the game.

A bulk of the Bugisu players are from Big league side, Kataka and regional out fit, CRO with a few odd names from Vipers as James Alitho (goalkeeper), Nico Wakiro Wadada and Musa Malunda.

Other players included Azizi Nambobi, Sula Wambede, Hassan Wadenga, Tiffu Kahande (all Kataka), Robert Otim Edmond, Derrick Dangachur and James Lomiro (CRO) as well as former URA striker Abdulrahaman Ajab (now at Jinja Municipal Council Hippos).

Bugisu takes on hosts Busoga at the Kyabazinga stadium, Bugembe in Jinja on Saturday in the official opening match of the revived championship that will attract as many as 16 provinces.

Busoga head coach Charles Ayiekho Lukula also expects a great game and will not take any chance for granted.

We have prepared well since we were in a residential camp at Njeru for the past four days. We have some good experienced players whom the young ones will build on.

I urge the fans to come in large numbers for the match and support the team.

We shall be at home and the home support will also be important in the game.

Busoga has experienced players Uganda Cranes defender Isaac Isinde, left back Yesseri Waibi, goalkeeper Paul Mujampani, Allan Drajua, Richard Wandyaka, Daudi Bagoole, George Kasonko among others.

The official opening game will be handled by Robert Donney.

The speaker of parliament, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, the Kyabazinga of Busoga William Wilberforce Nadiope IV are some of the high profile guests expected to grace the opening match.

This tourney is held under theme ‘Celebrating Our Ancestry’.
