The 2017-18 National Rugby Premiership continues on Saturday with third placed Rimula Rhinos hosting Heathens at Legends.
Scott Oluoch, Micheal Amolo and Martial Tchumkam crossed the line for Rhinos when the two sides met at Kyadondo, with the visitors claiming a 20-13 win.
With leaders Pirates facing a tough side in Mongers and second placed Kobs taking on an enigmatic Buffaloes side, the Heathens’ encounter is a game Rhinos need to win to stay in the title mix.
After escaping from the dreaded “house of pain” with a win last weekend, the Rhinos that have not put a foot wrong so far since stumbling against the top two placed sides will fancy their chances against struggling defending champions.
Heathens who lost just a single game last season have been generous this term with Pirates and Buffaloes already beating the side twice. The Saturday clash is the first of the 6 games still to play but the title is out of reach for Muhammad Athio’s men.
Rhinos on the other hand are pushing Kobs and Pirates to the end and a win against Heathens would be a huge boost in the title chase.
Rhinos’ major strength is in the forward line and there lies their weakness as well. While the forwards can gain ground at will, opponents that keep away the ball from them usually trouble Brian Makalama’s charges. You would would think it’s an area Heathens can explore but with the ball hogging in the middle it could be difficult to the ball to wing.
Heathens at times struggle in the lineouts and it was evident in the game against Buffaloes. It almost a near certainty that Rhinos will target that area, and couple coupled with their dominance in scrums, the side look good for points at home.
