Uganda will start their 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup campaign on Friday against African heavyweights Nigeria at Palais des Sports Salamatou Maiga in Bamako, Mali.

The first-leg of Group B of the World Cup African Qualifiers starts today (February 23) and will run till Sunday (February 25).

The Silverbacks last faced Nigeria in the group stage of the 2015 Afrobasket and the West Africans blew out Uganda 98-59 with only Stephen Omony getting into double figure scoring with 20 points.

Jimmy Enabu, Josh Johnson, Brandon Sebirumbi, Samuel Mukooza, Joseph Ikong and Stanley Ocitti are the other Silverbacks on the current team that were part that game.

For D’Tigers, point guard Benjamin Uzoh was part of that game. However, center Ike Diogu missed the tie through injury and will be a handful for Sebirumbi and Ocitti today.

Michael Efevberha whose last appearance for Nigeria was at the 2009 Afrobasket when he led the side in scoring has returned to the fold.

Meanwhile Rwanda will play Mali in the other group game.
