CAF Champions League record winners Al Ahly must reinforce squad to win this year’s competition, says coach Hossam El-Badri.

Badri whose side was drawn in the same group with former winners Esperance, Botswana’s Township Rollers and Ugandan champions, KCCA emphasizes

Al Ahly last won the competition in 2013 and lost last year’s finals 2-1 to Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca.

“We will hire a good defender in the summer transfer window to help the team in the Champions League group stages,” El-Badri told the club’s official website on Monday. “There are many discussions with the club management to choose the best players before opening negotiations with their clubs,” he added.

The coach also revealed the club has recalled Nasser Maher on loan from Smouha as well as club is monitoring other loanees in Saudi Arabia.

“We are monitoring all our loanees in Egypt and in the Saudi League. The club decided to regain the services of Nasser Maher following his fine displays with Smouha.

“We are also monitoring our players in the Saudi league and we will decide their fate in the summer.”

“The technical staff will discuss the needs of the team and it is likely that one of them will return to the team,” he concluded.

Al Ahly won the Egyptian League for the 40th time earlier this month and have won the CAF Champions League 8 times, more than any other club.
