Vipers SC coach Miguel Da Costa admitted he was shocked at the referee’s decision to add just one minute as his side won 3-2 against Bright Stars.
Centre referee Tulu Muzamiru and his assistants made atrocious decisions with the Venoms trailing but what stood out was adding just a minute in a game that had each side make three changes and lots of stoppages due to injuries.
“To be sincere, I held my head in disbelief when the fourth official signaled one minute of additional time,” a surprised Da Costa told the press. “The game had so many stoppages and one minute was really shocking,” he added before sending the press room into laughter.
Some think am arrogant but am a very honest man. If I was in the opposite dugout, I would climb the perimeter wall in protest.
Besides, the Portuguese thinks the rest of the decisions from the match officials were okay.
I don’t want to talk about referees but I think they handled the game well bar that incident.
My Best game at Vipers
In a closely contested and high tempo game played on a chilly Tuesday afternoon, the hosts took the lead through Brian Nsubuga but lost it when Kokas Opejo and Nelson Senkatuka scored in the first half.
Vipers were on the verge of losing until eight minutes when they rallied through substitutes Steven Mukwala and Tom Masiko to clinch all points.
Da Costa described the game as his best ever and one he will live to remember forever.
“It’s my best game since I took over,” he said. “Not for entertainment but for the spirit the players exhibited. They never gave up and fought till we won which was so pleasing,” he added.
Vipers trimmed the lead at the summit to one point and now have as many games, 21 as SC Villa, log leaders.
