Uganda’s dream of playing in next season’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series ended on Saturday after falling to Germany in the qualifiers’ quarterfinals in Hong Kong.

Tolbert Onyango’s men had earlier suffered a 24-10 defeat to Japan in the last game of Pool E to set up a clash with the Germans.

Sebastian Fromm punished Uganda’s poor defense with a first minute try at the corner and from that point the Germans had the grip on the game.

With Lawrence Sebuliba and Aaron Afoirwoth playing will slippery hands, Uganda barely got into Germany’s half before Tim Lichtenberg extended the lead in the fourth minute with the second try of the game that was easily converted by Fabian Heimpel for a confortable 12-00 lead at halftime.

Uganda struggled to pass and wanted to rely on individual brilliance which made it easy for the Germans to defend.

Marvin Dieckmann came on at the start of the second half to finish off Uganda with a couple of tries that were converted by Heimpel.
