Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia left it late against South Africa’s SuperSport United with a 1-0 win over Caf Confederation Cup playoff.

In a first leg match played at Machakos on Sunday, Gor Mahia had Rwanda international Jacques Tuyisenge to thank for the lone goal that put them within touching distance of the group stages of the competition.

The winning goal came in the 78th minute when Gor Mahia was awarded a penalty and Tuyisenge made no mistake but give K’Ogalo a slight but important advantage in the tie.

Earlier, George ‘BlackBerry’ Odhiambo had tested the visitors’ goalkeeper without a breakthrough while Francis Kahata also came close on many occasions.

SuperSport United best chance came in the first half when Morgan Moud attempt was saved by Boniface Olouch.

Ugandan international leftback Godfrey Walusimbi was missing from the match day squad.

The Caf Winners Cup in 1987 will now need to avoid defeat in the return leg in ten days to reach the group stages of the second most lucrative competition on the continent.
