Express moved a step closer to the safety zone with a 1-0 win over Mbarara City in a relegation six pointer at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.

David Ndihabwe was the hero for the Red Eagles with the winner twelve minutes to time that saw his side trim the gap on the Ankole Lions to a single point.

In a game played on a soggy Wankulukuku pitch following a morning downpour, Mbarara missed a host of chances through Clinton Kamugisha and Bebe Segujja but so did the hosts who also had a penalty saved.

Joseph Semujju was the culprit for missed from 12 yards after referee Mashood Ssali adjudged a handball in the forbidden area.

With the game seemingly destined for a frustrating stalemate for the home side, Ndihabwe netted to send the crowd into jubilation.

Shafik Bisaso’s men stay in the relegation zone with 22 points but now a point closer to Mbarara City who are one slot above the danger zone.
