The capital city based team overcame Rwenzori 3-1 during a group C match played at the Nyahuka play ground in Bundibugyo district, Western Uganda.

Bright Stars Football club captain and the current Uganda Premier League top scorer, Nelson Senkatuka scored all the three of Kampala’s goals.

Robert Mukongottya, a forward with Nyamityobora football club netted the consolation of Rwenzori in a match also watched by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) president, Moses Magogo.

Kampala Province head coach Wasswa Bbosa missed the match since he stayed back to concentrate on his club job with Sports Club Villa Jogoo who face Vipers at Masaka this Tuesday.

In Bbosa’s absence, Fred Kajoba and James Odoch handled the team.

Kampala thus attained their fourth successive victory in the tournament and remains the only team with a 100 percent record.

They qualify to the quarter finals with two group stage matches to spare in the championship.

In the other matches played on the day, Busoga secured a point at home during the goal-less stalemate with Teso in group A.

Proline center forward Daniel Isiagi was named man of the match.

Busoga also booked a quarter final slot having accumulated 10 points from 4 matches.

The other group A encounter played at the Mbale Municipal Stadium was an 8-0 win for Bugisu against a hap-less Sebei outfit.

James Alitho, normally a goalkeeper at Vipers Sports Club scored three times, taking his personal tally to 6 goals.

Vipers team captain Nico Wakiro Wadada, Milton Karisa, BUL’s Hakim Magombe (brace) and Kataka FC youngster Tifu Kahandi completed the massacre on a wet and slippery Mbale stadium turf.

Bugisu now has 7 points whilst Teso Province is on 5 points from four matches apiece.

Sebei is yet to register a win and has no chance of progressing to the knock out level.

In group B, Acholi joined Busoga and Kampala to the quarter finals, after a slim 1-0 away win to Kigezi at the Kabale Municipal Stadium.

URA midfielder Hudu Mulikyi scored the lone strike for Acholi before a lively crowd under rainny conditions.

Acholi now has 10 points from four matches.

Lango earned their first win, recovering from a goal down to win 3-1 away to Buganda at the Bishops S.S play ground in Mukono.

Amuka Bright Stars forward Dickens Okwi scored a brace and second half substitute Petit Wanok got  the winning goal.

Buganda had earlier in the first half taken the lead through Allan Kayiwa’s powerful header off captain Brian Majwega’s cross from the left.

All the other three teams in group B (Buganda, Kigezi and Lango) have four points with a realistic chance of joining the quarter finals alongside Acholi.

  1. I think this drum cup is becoming more popular than the Uganda premier league itself as regions without a team in the top league are trying to prove themselves. Acholi is my team.
