Zambia’s Gomes brothers will make their first appearance on the Africa Rally Championship scene this year when the series head to South Africa.
The York rally; the third round of the 2018 ARC series revs off on Friday in Mpumalanga.
Leroy and Kleevan Gomes make the thirty one crews that will compete on the weekend.
Leroy Gomes who finished fourth overall in the same event last year targets an even better placing.
“York Rally was a great event. It was a little scary in the mountains though. So this year, I will be trying to get over the fears.
“Besides, we decided to do York Rally for more time behind the wheels which comes with more experience,” said Leroy.
Just like his younger brother, Kleevan too is going for the experience.
“This year I want to develop my skills better and improve my overall performance and become a much cleaner driver.
“So for York Rally, besides the experience, my aim is to just perform better than I did last year and have fun along the way. Hopefully I will beat my fear of cliffs on the mountains,” said Kleevan.

Leroy finished second overall on the 2017 ARC standings while Kleevan was fourth overall.
The brothers however, have less hopes for taking on the ARC chase this year.
“This season we are likely not to do the whole ARC season. But we shall do the Tanzania and the home event in Zambia.
“Personally I will be concentrating on the home championship which is already getting very tough. So we have to give it our best,” asserted Leroy.
Leroy Gomes will be navigated by Riyaz Latife in a Mitsubishi Evo X while Zunaid Khan will call the notes for Kleevan in an Evo 9.
