With a few days remaining before the 2018 York Rally – third round of Africa Rally Championship – revs off this weekend in Mpumalanga, South Africa, homeboy George Smalberger is already charged for the competition.
Smallberger admits he just can’t wait to get to the wheel.
“I am so excited ahead of the race. With a new co-driver and engine let’s see if I can improve my times.
“I would love to do well in the top class. It’s quite a long rally and finishing the event is the most important,” said Smalberger.
With the highly anticipated race, Smalberger will bench mark his drive with the visiting crews; especially those in the ARC.
“We have the ARC crews in some good cars. But the R2 1600 cars will compete quite well against each other. Crews like Guy, AC, Richard will be up against the first positions.
“A podium for us this weekend will be a bonus. One must consider finishing first before looking at the position,” he asserted.
George finished sixth overall last year and he is currently lying sixth on the SA Rally Championship standings.
The York Rally welcomed a total number of 31 crews from Zambia, Kenya and South Africa
