Express Football Club condemned UPDF to second 2-0 loss in succession during a Uganda Premier League match played on Tuesday.
Michael Birungi gave the home side the lead on 13 minutes to lift the mood at Wankulukukuku stadium.
UPDF, who had lost 2-0 in the their last away game to KCCA at Lugogo was forced into an early change, 22 minutes past kick off when Ronald Owinyi replaced Emmanuel Egau.
Jalil Zimula scored the second goal in the 32nd minute as the Red Eagles extended the lead heading to the half time break.
Express’ first change of the game came on the hour mark when Davis Mayanja paved way for Sharif Ochaya Muhammed.
Four minutes later, David Ndihabwe took over Alfred Leku’s place before Mubaraka Nsubuga took over the scorer of the first goal Birungi with two minutes left on the clock.
The victory temporarily cools the nerves and tension at Wankulukuku as the six time league winners jump out of the relegation red zone for the first time in a space of one and a half months.
Express is now 12th with 25 points, displacing Mbarara City who dropped to 15th on the league standings (with 23 points).
Mbarara City hosts Jinja side, BUL on Wednesday at the Kakyeeka stadium, Mbarara.
