Masavu Football Club captain Abraham Ndugwa led by example, converting a first half penalty past goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige as the home side recorded a slim 1-0 win against Soana at the Lake side Fisheries Training Institute play-ground, Bugonga on Wednesday.

The game was one of the two matches lined up on the day (Mbarara City edged BUL 2-1 in the other).

The penalty arose after a handball by Soana defender Musa Mudde in the forbidden area after 13 minutes of the poorly attended game.

Attempts by the visiting side to make amends hit a dead end.

Defender Mike Kawooya watched on in disbelief when his goal bound shot from 30 yards was slightly deflected by Sulaiman Ochero before hitting the lower post with goalkeeper Salim Wekiya beaten.

This was Masavu’s 5th win in 25 matches which keeps them on 23 points and stay bottom placed.

Soana remains glued in 10th position with 28 points off 25 matches.

Alex Isabirye (Head coach, Soana Football Club):

I salute our opponents (Masavu FC) for the brave show throughout the match. I kept wondering why they are in such a position if they are able to fight on like this. For my team, we failed to utilize our chances created but the focus in these remaining matches will be built upon. We face Proline next Wednesday at home. We shall rest for a few days before resuming to plan for the match. The target is to finish in 8th place this season as i also look at the players with the right character who will be used next season
