St Mary’s Stadium Kitende will not be a place for the faint hearted on Friday as the current Uganda Premier League table leaders Vipers Sports Club host the reigning champions, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

It is one game that will surely have an impact on who will be the champions for the league in this final bend of the 2017/18 season.

Vipers dislodged Sports Club Villa Jogoo from the top of the table standings after a hard fought 3-1 home win against Masavu in the famous Entebbe road derby on Tuesday.

This will be the 31st meeting between KCCA and Vipers as both sides have won and drawn 10 matches apiece and lost five games each.

During the first leg of this very season, KCCA won 3-1 at the Star Times Stadium, Lugogo.

For the return leg, the home side will be seeking a revenge mission given what is at stake for the match.

Team News:

Vipers:

Vipers will still miss the services of their head coach Miguel Duarte Da Costa who is serving a four match suspension for violent conduct towards the match officials away to BUL.

But, Vipers’ assistant coach Moses Golola asserts Da Costa has been with the players in training and decides the team that will play;

We shall miss Da Costa on the bench but he has been with the players in training and decides which team to play. At Vipers, we are one big supportive family.

Goalkeeper James Alitho is also on a four match ban but Eric Kibowa will make the bench as Ismail Watenga maintains the number one status quo in between the goal posts.

The Venoms’ captain Nico Wakiro Wadada returns to the fold after sitting out the home win against Masavu.

KCCA:

Fresh from a 7-2 win against URA, KCCA is firing on all cyclinders and takes the form to Kitende on Tuesday.

Long term injured midfielder Ibrahim Saddam Juma will still be sidelined as Muzamiru Mutyaba and Derrick Nsibambi face late fitness concerns.

KCCA manager Mike Hilary Mutebi has warned the match officials to respect the game and handle it professionally.

Key Players:

KCCA’s Allan Okello, Julius Poloto, goalkeeper Charles Lukwago, captain Timothy Awany, Paul Mucureezi and red hot striker striker Muhammed Shaban remain key for the visitors.

The home side will parade Watenga in goal, Wadada at right back and Duncan Sseninde on the left back.

Any of Deus Bukenya, Bashir Asiku and Halid Lwaliwa will play in the heart of the defence with Tom Masiko facing his former side in the middle of the pack.

Tadeo Lwanga returns from suspension and will definitely be part of the Vipers midfield alongside Brian Nkuubi and Moses Waiswa at some stage of the game.

Erisa Ssekisambu, Milton Karisa, Clovis Mbayi Steven Mukwala and Daniel Sserunkuma are the venoms’ attacking options.

The winner on the day will climb aloft the table standings since second placed Villa will only be playing 24 hours later away to Mbarara City at the Kakyeka Stadium.
