The cordial relationship between Chinese city, Wuhan and the lake side Entebbe Municipality has continued to ripe fruitful dividends.

Following a partnership signed two years ago between the two cities have been engaged in a number of activities and projects.

From the 2016 Dragon boat festival held in Entebbe, two subsequent marathons in Entebbe to the 2017 Wuhan marathon in Wuhan city, the two cities have been engaged in inter-twining activities.

The latest development is the donation of an assortment of sports equipment to the Entebbe Municipality football teams.

The equipment includes balls, playing boots, shin guards, jerseys and jackets.

Mayor of Entebbe Municipality, Vincent Kayanja De Paul is enthused by the great gesture from the Wuhan city community.

We are overwhelmed for the partnership between Entebbe Municipality and Wuhan City. We have had great exchange programmes and benefit either parties. We are happy for the sports equipment received which will continue to boost the development of sports and football in particular, in Entebbe Municipality. I thank the mayor of Wuhan City, Wan Yong for the kind gesture and love towards Entebbe, Uganda in general

According to Kayanja, the first beneficiaries of these donated sports gear will be the football teams actively engaged in the respective leagues

The first beneficiaries are teams engaged in the Azam Uganda Premier league, FUFA Big league, Wakiso District league, Buganda league and the fifth division as well as the women and youth teams.

Some of the assured teams to benefit from the donation are Masavu F.C, Entebbe F.C, Entebbe Leopards, Kiggungu Mapeera, Viva La Vie, Manyago, Red Rooster, Taggy Girls Women Team, Entebbe Ladies Women Team, Lake Victoria Soccer Academy among others.

One of the beneficiaries, Yassin Ssemanda, a team manager at Entebbe F.C lauded the mayor for establishing good partners in Wuhan city and vowed to make the best use of the donation.

“We are happy for the donated items. We express our delight towards the mayor for lobbying and having good friends like those in Wuhan city. We shall make the best use of the donated sports equipment” Ssemanda, also a local Councillor in Entebbe Division B stated.

Moses Ssebbi, a coach cum manager at the Kitubulu-Katabi based Viva La Vie, a fifth division club believes the donated items will inspire many of his young players on the team.

We are happy for such donated items. This is good motivation for many of the young players on the team and i thank Wuhan City for this offer as well as the Mayor Kayanja for building a wide chain of friends with such people.

To this effect, a six man sports committee among the beneficiaries has been also initiated to help in the organization and distribution.

On the advise of the mayor Kayanja, the committee was also tasked to form an association for a collective voice in lobbying future projects.

About Wuhan City:

Wuhan is the sprawling capital of Central China’s Hubei province.

It is a commercial center divided by the Yangtze and Han rivers. The city contains many lakes and parks, including expansive, picturesque East Lake. Nearby, the Hubei Provincial Museum displays relics from the Warring States period, including the Marquis Yi of Zeng’s coffin and bronze musical bells from his 5th-century B.C. tomb.
