Meddie Kagere and Eric Rutanga scored for Gor Mahia and Rayon Sport as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw at Regional Stadium, Nyamirambo in their CAF Confederation Cup group opener.
Kagere put the visiting Kenyan champions into the lead inside eleven minutes to silence the home crowd.
But left back Rutanga restored parity for the hosts with a beauty of a free kick from outside the area that left goalie Boniface Olouch with no chance 14 minutes later.
With the game tied, each side threw attacks in search of the winner but none found a breakthrough.
Ugandan international left back Godfrey Walusimbi played all the game for Gor Mahia while compatriot Yasin Mugume on the opposing side started on the bench.
Gor Mahia’s next game will be at home against USM Algers while Rayon Sport visit Tanzania’s Yanga in Dar es Salaam.
