Despite his team missing opportunities to score the winner against Rayon Sport, Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr was happy to pick a draw away from home.
Gor Mahia took the lead in the CAF Confederation Cup group D game at Nyamirambo through Meddie Kagere but Eric Rutanga made sure the points were shared with an equaliser from a free kick after a foul by Godfrey Walusimbi.
“This is a fantastic away result,” Kerr told the post-match media conference. “Every player on the team did an excellent job to ensure we don’t lose, especially the defenders,” he added.
The Kenyan champions were the better side overall with better chances to score the second but also survived attacks through Ismailia Diarra and Burundian Hussein Tchabalala.
Gor Mahia’s next game will at home against Algeria’s USM Alger who beat Yanga 4-0 in Alger on day one.
