Uganda Cricket today flagged off the Cricket Cranes ahead of the all important World Cricket League Division 3 qualifiers to Oman.
The 14-man team led by Roger Mukasa will be leaving for Oman on Sunday morning to battle five other nations for promotion to Division 2.
The Cricket Cranes will be looking to match their Division 4 heroics where they emerged champions but as they step up a grade the opposition is tougher.
Home side Oman and fellow East Africans Kenya are top seeds. Singapore and USA are joined by Uganda and Denmark from Division 4.
The top two sides in the tournament will be promoted to Division 2 while the bottom two will be relegated to Division 4.
At the flag off ceremony, the National Council of Sports pledged to give the Cricket Cranes 10M to help them with their facilitation while in Oman where the team has been advised to perceive in the heat.
Cricket Cranes Captain Roger Mukasa said;
This tournament means a lot not to just to us but the Cricket fraternity as a whole. We have prepared hard and we want to be back in Division 2 playing with the big boys.
The technical team is led by Kenyan legend Steve Tikolo and assisted by Jackson Ogwang.
The six-team tournament that will be played at Al Emarat Cricket Stadium in Muscat will start run from November 9–19.
Cricket Cranes will open up against Denmark on Friday, November 9, then take on the USA on Saturday, November 10.
Steve Tikolo’s charges will take on troubled neighbours Kenya on Tuesday, November followed by Singapore on Thursday, November 15 and will close the tournament against hosts on Sunday, November 18.
