Taddeo Lwanga talks to the refereee during a 2-1 defeat to Al Merriekh

Taddeo Lwanga is confident Vipers will advance to the next round despite a painful 2-1 defeat to Al Merriekh of Sudan in Khartoum.

In a game the Venoms defend resiliently, they lost to late Bakri Almadina and Ibrahim Altag strikes before Daniel Sserunkuma scored the only goal for the Venoms.

“I am 80% confident we shall finish the job in Kampala,” Lwanga told Kawowo Sports. “What we have to do is simple. Score early and then defend well,” he added.

Of late, Vipers haven’t been so inspiring more so in defence conceding almost in all games including against lowly ranked Paidha Black Angels at home.

But Lwanga believes it’s impossible to keep a clean sheet against the former Caf Champions League semi-finalists.

“It’s sure and possible,” he said.

Vipers will draw inspiration from the fact they have never conceded a continental goal at home on three attempts but Al Merriekh won their last trip to Kampala 2-1 against KCCA in 2014.

Vipers need to win 1-0 to advance to the pre-group stages.
